Osprey Diary 2nd May
What an exciting day at the osprey nest here at Loch of the Lowes! There have been two osprey intruders to the nest. One was a female with a white leg ring, who did not get much of a reaction from either of our birds- perhaps a local or familiar bird? We did not get a photograph of this bird as it did not land but we will be looking out for it again.
This morning, however, one intruder bird land on the nest , somewhat falteringly, and got very short shrift from our female. When we slowed the footage down on replay it was obvious this intruder was ringed- a Blue Darvic ring on the left leg with AE on it, and on closer inspection, you could just see a satellite aerial on its back. This of course is the famous Rothiemurcus, one of Roy Dennis’s young birds who is now 5years old and who hasn’t settled down to breed yet.
One of our Osprey watch volunteers Raymond Leinster got this fabulous shot of him attempting his landing on the nest:
Whilst not from this area this bird is becoming a regular visitor to the area and we hope he settles down to breed locally with us at some point in the future!
