Webcam update: we hope you find the webcam stream from our Osprey nest improved after todays tweaks and changes. The webcam should now be working for all, but please accept our sincere apologies for the poor sound quality- this is not something we can currently fix, as the microphone is on the nest tree itself.

There was great excitement this afternoon as a second osprey was briefly sighted at Loch of the Lowes– but alas it was not our beloved resident female. This bird ( possibly a female judging by the size) landed on flat top tree ( a big pine between the two lochs) for about 5minutes. Our male displayed for her- flying circles over her carrying half a fish and showing off his credentials. The new bird seemed to ignore him pretty much, and left again after a buzzard dive bombed its perch. It is most likely that this bird is a passing traveller, though it is possible that it is the same stray female that turned up at Lowes last spring- we’d need to get a good close view of her on the camera to be sure. It will be interesting to see if this bird turns up again or stays around the loch- perhaps its a young bird looking for a nesting opportunity.

What a treat it was to see two ospreys in the air again over the loch, however briefly, on such a glorious spring day- let’s hope it bodes well for the season ahead.
