Osprey Migration Update 13th December
Firstly, unfortunately we still have had no further news of Blue 44’s whereabouts- we keep checking his satellite data daily to see if his tag begins working again ( as it has been known for them to do this) but so far to no avail. We continue to have every hope that he is alive and well, despite a satellite tag malfunction, and hope too that he has found a safe wintering ground, whether in Spain ( where he was last seen four weeks ago) or further south in Africa.
Our other 2012 Osprey chick, Blue YD continues to do fabulously well in Africa. After spending a lot of time inland on his favourite bend of the Senegal River, on the 7th December he decided to visit the coast again. He took a more northwards loop this time, and then followed the coast down past St Louis, to the area of the Senegal River Delta. This huge area of channels, lagoons, and sand dunes is a highly important habitat for a wide variety of birds, such as pelicans, despite problems of agricultural pollution and eutrophication.
It must have fabulous fishing, but as you can see from the picture below, he is not the only one fishing in this area.
Blue YD then continued southwards and spent a couple of days presumably sea fishing and resting in the lightly vegetated dunes just inland, close to where he had been before on the 15th November.
The most recent point on the 10th of December was just south of the village of Gabar.
