Our ranger team was out on the loch today checking for signs of Beaver activity. Now the Beaver has been spotted a few times this will became a regular part of Emma’s job. Fishing, canoeing, boating, swimming etc is not allowed on the loch due to disturbance for the Ospreys and other species but the SWT ranger team is licensed to go out when the need arises. Emma, Noa and myself went out when Blue 44 went missing but this is not something we do very often. They did find several signs of Beaver activity, mostly concentrated in one place and small bits of gnawing here and there as you can see in the photo. Emma and the team will be keeping an eye on this to see what happens next.

 

While they were out on the loch they came across five Herons all standing on the same log, it must be good fishing spot. There are still four Swifts flying around, it won’t be long before they too disappear for warmer climes and we start seeing our winter guests arrive. There’s definitely an autumnal feel in the area with the trees already changing colour or beginning to lose their leaves, it seems odd that it’s only mid – August and still technically Summer.
