Our Red Squirrels are also still showing off at the feeders every day here at Loch of the Lowes, hyperactive and charming as ever. Unfortunately though, we did see a Grey Squirrel in the woods at Dunkeld yesterday, which we have reported to our local squirrel officer – it is vital to ensure this area remains a stronghold for our endangered Reds, and free of Squirrel Pox.

This will help us build an accurate picture of the problem and target our efforts to help Reds most effectively.

 Or better still, drop into Loch of the Lowes on Sunday 4^th December when we will  be hosting a Red Squirrel Day 11am- 2pm.

 Ken Neil, project officer for the Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels project, will be on hand to tell visitors young and old all about this famous creature.  Hear all about the work we are doing to help save the red squirrel in your area; see how it has adapted to the Scottish environment and touch real red squirrel fur.

 Our mascot Andrew the red squirrel will be in the Visitor Centre and is eager to meet new friends!

 And of course at Loch of the Lowes you can come and see these loveable creatures just metres away. Loch of the Lowes is probably the best place to watch red squirrels in the UK, as they visit the feeders right outside the window.

 Red Squirrel Day is on Sunday 4^th December. The Visitor Centre is open from 10.30am-4pm and Ken Neil will be ready to answer all your red squirrel questions from 11am-2pm.
