Events at the nest today

The female Osprey was routinely on and off the nest during the morning until she returned at 9.18am to settle on the eggs. The male Osprey was observed at 9.55am with a fish in its talons but disappeared behind the trees while the female Osprey was continuously calling. The female vacated the nest for a short time at 10.20 before returning to turn then sit on the eggs, she continued to incubate until 11.13 at which point she was seen perched on the nest edge. The male Osprey returned with a half eaten large trout which was offered to and accepted by the female at 11.50. The male settled on the nest until 13.09 before taking flight, returning at 13.14. He resettled on the eggs until 14.40 before again flying off, leaving the eggs unattended until his return at 15.19 with another stick; he turned the eggs and settled.

Other Wildlife at Loch of the Lowes

Today at the viewing window we had a juvenile great spotted woodpecker, robin, blue tit, great tit, tree creeper, chaffinch, greenfinch, siskin, yellowhammer, mallards and red squirrel.At the hides it was fairly quiet in the morning with 3 great crested grebe, total 30 mallards,1 tufted duck flying around the loch, 3 oystercatchers, 3 swallow, 4 sand martin and 4 black headed gulls.

At 4.00pm we saw 1 white fallow hind deer across the loch which was with 3 other fallow deer, visitors to the hind had a great opportunity to take photos of the white deer which is often seen across the loch.
