Events from the nest:

It has been a very warm day here at Loch of the Lowes and both resident Ospreys have been seen panting to keep cool.  There have been sightings of intruder ospreys over the nest today at 07.45 and 08.54, both of which were chased off by 7Y.  Our resident male also spent some time this morning chasing crows away from the vicinity of the nest. 

Most of the day on the nest has passed away with regular egg turning and the swapping of incubation duties between our resident male and female.  There have been 2 fish deliveries by 7Y to the nest this afternoon.  The first was brought in at 13.02 and the second at 15.15, on both occasions our resident female flew off with them to eat elsewhere.

Other Wildlife at Loch of the Lowes:

Out on the loch today we have seen 16 tufted ducks, 3 great crested grebes, 3 mute swans, 2 Canada geese and a male golden eye.  In the evenings just in front of the hides we have been getting fantastic views of Pipistrelle bats.  These tiny mammals are Europe’s smallest bat and they appear to have very erratic flight patterns constantly changing direction suddenly in the pursuit of insects. 

Around the feeders today we have had are recurrent visitors the chaffinches, great tits, blue tits and a robin.  We are also pleased to see that the yellow hammers have become a regular sight at the feeders.
