Osprey Diary 3rd June
Morning all, its another beautiful morning at Lowes, with blazing sunshine and not a cloud in the sky! These chicks have certainly been lucky in their timing coming into the world. I strongly suspect mum will be on ‘parasol’ duty a lot today in the heat.
You will notice how mobile our osprey chicks are becoming, starting to wander around the nest. Their legs are starting to gain strength and thier balance is improving- they no longer topple forwards so much, but occassionally they still go over sideways when they’ve eaten too much! They are starting to explore towards the edges of the nest cup- now you can appreciate why the parents birds dug it so deep initially to keep them safely contained. As the season progesses you will notice how the nest will change shape and become more platform shaped as more and more bedding is addded and their need for room increases.
