We’ve been treated to a run of really good weather lately here at Loch of the Lowes and all our wildlife and birds in particular have really appreciated it. There are bumper numbers of young fledglings around and especially young woodpeckers, thrushes, tits and robins. there are also Spotted flycatchers in our meadow and a  treecreeper family around. On the loch one of our pairs of Grebes is nesting yet again in the water lilies (which are flowering spectacularly) , there are Goosander chicks around, and over 50 Canada geese with goslings too.

Mammal sightings in the last week have included Beaver, Pine marten and even a young Stoat in an old stone wall on our path, as well as the usual Fallow and Roe deer both of whom have calves just now.

Butterflies have been abundant in the warm dry weather to- mostly Ringlets and Green Veined Whites so far , with more species emerging almost daily. It is a bumper year for damsel and dragonflies too- with dozens of them emerging on the reeds right in front of our hides.

• Guided walk on Dragonfly theme 1-3pm on Sat 12th July, small charge, booking recommended.
