63,844….

Regular counts are now being taken on the Basin’s geese numbers and there has been a staggering increase in the pink-foots in just the last week.  At 10,000 individuals on the 14th October (already double that on the same day last year at around 4,000), today’s count produced 63,844.  This number was only reached on the 12th October last year, so whether the geese have arrived early or there are still more to come is yet to be seen.  Of course, we’ll keep you updated.

Other geese news….the Canada geese have now dropped to 26 individuals, still with their lone barnacle goose companion, and we now have 24 light-bellied brent geese with their distinctive dark head and neck, White collar, light grey belly, and small size.
