Wildlife Diary 23rd March: First Osprey Sighting at Loch of the Lowes

At 11.36 today an Osprey landed on the nest at Loch of the Lowes. The bird appeared very nervous, landing only briefly and then taking off, circling and landing on the nest again only to disappear to the east over theLoch. On first appearances it seems to be an unringed bird.

We are replaying the footage to see if we can ID the bird, but the behaviour is not typical of our usual female Lady, who is confident and proprietorial on her nest of so many years. It may be a young bird, or a neighbour popping in to see who else is has arrived from Africa!

We will update you on any further sightings as the day goes on. Whoever the bird is, it is very exciting news indeed!
