Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Blog February 1st 2011

Morning folks,

Well what a contrast from yesterday… the 1st day of February is bright & sunny and there is a hive of bird activity around the visitor centre this morning. The chaffinches are out in force and our resident mallards & pheasants are back after yesterday’s disappearance. One of our volunteers reported seeing large numbers of mallards wandering in the woods as he made his way down – perhaps they’d gone for a morning walk!

The loch is really beginning to open up at long last – our goldeneye numbers have doubled overnight to 23 and there is a large congregation of ducks, including possibly a few teal in the open water towards the far end of the loch.

And I’ve just spotted a treecreeper out of the office window – hows that for up-to-the-minute wildlife news?

Happy blogging,

Jonathan
