Osprey Dairy 16th June

There was a lot of intruder activity around the nest again last night (as well as another male osprey seen fishing at the far end of the loch!). This was probably just an inquisitive neighbour or one of the juvenile single birds hanging around- they are no longer seriously challenging for the nest now but can still be a bit of a pain!
You will have noticed the chick’s reaction to the drama- at the parents alarm call which is a sharp whistling noise, they instantly ‘play dead’. This is when their camouflage really comes into its own, as they very effectively disappear on the nest. You could be forgiven for thinking the nest empty, but when the danger is past they magically reappear!
Two breakfasts already this morning fro our baby ospreys and it looks like another beautiful day here at Lowes.
