Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions associated with volunteering.

No! Our volunteers come from all backgrounds with all levels of knowledge, from complete beginner to expert. While some of our roles require specific knowledge, many others just need enthusiasm and a desire to make a difference.

No. We have created the new Flexi-Team to cater for people with busy lives, who would like to help but are not in a position to make a regular commitment. Once you have been accepted onto the Flexi-Team, you will gain access to a range of volunteering opportunities that don’t require a long-term commitment. In fact, most of these opportunities last between an hour and a day.

Having said that, if you are looking for a regular volunteering opportunity, we have plenty of these available too!

We have a fund available to help volunteers with certain expenses, as we do not want anyone to be out of pocket as a result of volunteering. Due to the limited nature of this fund, all we ask is that any expenses that you would like to claim are agreed with us in advance and are accompanied afterwards by a receipt.

It is very important to us to ensure that you are safe whilst volunteering. Therefore we will provide all health and safety instruction and guidance, plus protective clothing where necessary. Click here to read a guide about health and safety for volunteers.

We are committed to the safe keeping of personal details of our volunteers and anyone else whose information we hold. You can find out more by viewing our Privacy Notice.

We welcome volunteers of all abilities. If you have any needs that you would like to discuss, please get in touch with Peter Gilbert, our Volunteer Development Officer, on 0131 312 4732 or at volunteer@scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk. We want to match you with a suitable opportunity and will be happy to discuss what is currently available.
