Adam is taking a few well deserved days off so I have been manning the watch site this week and enjoying staying in the caravan to protect the peregrines.

It is definitely starting to feel more spring-like and the warmer weather has brought out a variety of birds. Over the past couple of days I have been surrounded by treecreepers, blue tits, gold crests and greenfinches all enjoying the sun and the new growth on the conifer trees in that part of the reserve. Hopefully I will also be able to spot a few badgers during my stay as there are plenty of signs that they have been active through the night. The peregrines have also been appreciating this fine weather, often seen perched on the rock ledges or their favourite oak tree, preening themselves or having a doze in the afternoon glow. The spring sunshine also seems to be working its magic on the pair. The male was charming the female over the weekend bringing her a starling to eat and continuing their courtship. Then yesterday morning they both flew up into the tops of the scots pines along the path from the watch site and copulation calls were heard. A fantastic development which means with any luck we may be seeing the first eggs laid within a week!
