The cormorant which has been seen on the reserve in previous years has made a return. These seabirds may be more commonly associated with the rocky coastal areas, but it is actually not unusual for them to migrate up river later in the year and the shelter of the valley around New Lanark provides a perfect fishing location for this individual over the winter. Along with the darkening evenings and change in leaf colour, bird migrations are a sure sign of winter approaching! We hope that there will be many more sightings of this visitor over the next few months.
