Little dipper
I previously blogged about the big dippers we frequently see outside the Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre.
Well now we have a little dipper too! Like a young blackbird, baby dippers are a very mottled brown, not acquiring their darker adult plumage until next year. This one has been very demanding, chasing its parents from rock to rock begging for food.
It won’t be long though until it has to scout out it’s own dinner. Dippers do this by bobbing underwater to pick larvae and other invertebrates off the river bed. They can even walk along the bottom of a river underwater and also swim along like a puffin in search of some grub.
Hopefully this little fellow wasn’t dinner for the peregrines but like everything they do have to eat!
