Walking on eggshells
More wildlife clues have been discovered this week.
This eggshell was found on the woodland path, when it narrowly escaped being trodden on by an eagle-eyed school group from Carluke.
Due to the large size and because it’s early in the season, it’s likely to be from a woodpigeon nest, as these large birds produce young pretty much all year.
Empty egg shells are a normal sight as birds remove the shells once the chicks have hatched. This is probably done to reduce the risk of predation of the nest, as bright white shells can attract unwanted attention from predators such as crows.
