A big Brown Trout arrived this morning for our female, the 92nd fish of the season so far. We have some exciting news about the auction for the Osprey illustration by Simon Forkner. The auction closed yesterday and the lucky bidder was Kenny Hall of Penicuik raising over £250 for the satellite tracker appeal.

Osprey FAQ – this is the most asked question of the season so far, we have answered it in previous blogs but given we’re being asked it several times a day I thought I’d cover it again.

Q: When will the eggs hatch?

A: The average incubation is 37 days although this can be as little as 35 days and as many as 40 days. The eggs will hatch at 2 – 3 day intervals, assuming all four hatch then the youngest chick could be about 10 days behind it’s eldest sibling which is a big difference. Sometimes they can catch up and there are records of female Ospreys favouring the smallest chicks to help them catch up.

Going on the average of 37 days the predicted hatching days for the four eggs are:

Egg 1 – 25th May

Egg 2 – 28th May

Egg 3 – 31st May

Egg 4 – 3rd June
