Incubation continues with both birds have good spells on the nest. He finally brought her a fish this afternoon after only an hour or so nagging from her, we think it was a small Perch but it got whipped away so quickly we hardly saw it! There was another Osprey passing by the nest and determinedly heading towards the top of the loch to fish and a Buzzard was circling directly above the nest but again our male didn’t flinch or move.

Q: Why does she look so scruffy with feathers everywhere?

A: She’s moulting at the moment, as she’s sitting on the nest this is a great time for her to moult as she’s not doing much. This is in complete contrast to the male who moults before he migrates back here so he’s in the best condition for fishing.

A long last the Blue Tits have started nest building, like many other species they’re about 3 – 4 weeks behind but we are now seeing other signs of Spring and the reserve is slowing turning green with Wood Anemone, Wood Sorrel and Dog Violet all coming into bloom.
