Reserve Project Groups

For over half a century, we have built up considerable knowledge and experience in planning and undertaking conservation projects throughout Scotland.

Practical conservation

We undertake a wide variety of conservation work – urban and rural, large and small – and offer work experience in countryside conservation to a wide range of volunteers; young and old, from a wide variety of backgrounds and countries.

Our Reserve Project Groups are located throughout the Central Belt, Tayside, Dumfries & Galloway and the Highlands. If you have some spare time during the week and would like to help us manage our reserves, why not join your local Reserve Project Group.

“Being a Reserve Project Group volunteer is a great opportunity to get out and about and do something positive now I’m retired. I like the flexibility of being able to turn up whenever I can. I can fit volunteering around my life.

“My work is helping generate some lasting change on Trust reserves and I am helping to leave the local area in a better shape. I’ve discovered some fantastic ‘hidden’ Trust reserves in the Lothians and Borders whilst learning new skills, having fun, meeting new people and learning about local species and management.”

If you have any spare days during the working week and would like to help us look after our wildlife reserves, you might wish to consider joining one of our Reserve Project Groups.

Typical projects include boundary work (drystane dyking, fencing), access work (paths, bridges, steps), habitat management and creation (tree planting, meadow cutting) and much more.

We also provide all tools, transport and equipment, so all you need is a love of the outdoors and the willingness to make a difference.
