Seasonal volunteer rangers at Loch of the Lowes

Situated near Dunkeld, Loch of the Lowes covers 130 hectares including woodland, freshwater loch plus a visitor centre and hides. All year round the reserve is host to red squirrels, great-crested grebes and beavers. During the spring and summer months the ospreys return to their nest just 150m away from the hides.

Seasonal Rangers at Loch of the Lowes - 2022

What to expect

The season at Loch of the Lowes is from mid-June to mid-September and we normally recruit up to four volunteer rangers for three months at a time.

Duties typically include:

  • Practical conservation management – such as controlling invasive and non-native species.
  • Surveying and monitoring
  • Public engagement – delivering public events, blogs, social media, and encouraging responsible access
  • Working with other volunteers and partner organisations

You will be supported and supervised by the Trust’s Perthshire Ranger and we will provide certificated training where required such as first aid and Lantra brushcutter.

Volunteer accommodation is provided at Loch of the Lowes in a shared bothy. The Trust will also provide branded clothing and an allowance to help with food costs.
