Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Blog 8th March 2011

Hello bloggers

I’m pleased to be able to again update you all on the happenings at Loch of the Lowes.  We try to update our blog regularly, however recently we have been very busy preparing for the possible return of our resident breeding osprey.

Our new Seasonal Ranger will be starting with us very shortly and our SITA Species Protection Officers are also on stand-by ready to go to work as soon as ospreys return. A meeting later this week will inform all our local volunteers about our plans to keep any osprey which nests at Lowes safe over  the coming breeding season. We have also been busy making sure all our cameras are working properly before any birds arrive. As I write the whole place is being given a spring clean.

Mark Beaumont, the renowned Scottish cyclist and ambassador of the Scottish Wildlife Trust, made a visit to Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Reserve and Visitor Centre on the 2nd of this month to start the countdown to our ospreys return.  You can more about his visit at www.swt.org.uk/news.

As Jonathan reported is his last entry recent sightings indicate that some osprey are quite advanced in their migration. Hopefully our own pair are well on their way and will arrive in the next few weeks.
