Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Blog 21st February 2011

Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink…

Morning all,

Well we begin a new week here at Loch of the Lowes, still without running water. We’re hoping to resolve this problem either today or tomorrow so touch wood the visitor will be re-opening on Wednesday.

In the meantime the loch is now almost completely ice-free (cue loud applause!).  The highlight of Friday afternoon was the arrival of 5 Whooper swans, bolstering our wildfowl count that still includes large numbers of Goldeneye and Mallards.

I saw a beautiful male Bullfinch whilst out birdwatching yesterday (sadly not at Lowes), which got me wondering – has anyone ever seen Bullfinches here? I haven’t seen one so far. Anyone know? Answers on a postcard…

I’m also hoping for more sightings of the pair of Brambling and the Lesser Redpoll that have been visiting recently.

Have a good day,

Jonathan
