What to do in July!

What a dreich week we are having! How disappointing to think that we are in the middle of July and it feels like the middle of March. But fear not the Spanish Plume is coming or at least it was rumoured to be coming. Now it seems less and less likely that we will have a 30-degree heatwave, more like ‘average July temperatures’. So what have you got planned for this average July? The reserve is looking amazing at the moment. As I walk along the paths my senses are overloaded with honeysuckle and elderflower in the woods and meadowsweet in the meadow. It is well worth a visit and we have some events coming up that you might be interested in.

Our badgers have been behaving amiably and entertaining visitors from as far as Mexico. We run watches until the end of August and they do start to book up quickly at this time of year. Upcoming dates in July include Sat 16th, Thu 21st, Sat 23rd and Thu 28th. Other events this month include our Butterfly Net Workshops and Minibeast Hunts on Sun 17th and Sun 31st. They were really popular last year and are suitable for 4+ years. To book, please visit – www.thefallsofclyde.eventbrite.com.

Finally we have an event coming up which we are running in partnership with MARINElife. On Saturday 6th August they will be delivering the course – Identification of Whales, Dolphins and Seabirds here at the Falls of Clyde. It gives folk the opportunity to learn more about identifying what can be seen from shore and at sea around the UK coast and how to report your sightings for conservation or if you wanted to – become a MARINElife volunteer ship-based surveyor in your spare time. To book, email Tricia Dendle – bookings@marine-life.org.uk.
