Me again! The past week there has been a few different things going on, and I am learning something new all the time.

Adam, Andy and I have been doing a variety of management tasks on the reserve, including mending some fences up by the Hall of Mirrors. Unfortunately the cows in the neighbouring field like to go for a wander from time to time, and had damaged parts of the the fence. Not to worry however as we are top quality rangers here at Falls of Clyde, and fairly quickly the fence was back to looking neat and tidy again. This is only temporary though as we hope to replace the fence in the coming weeks.

Laura and I also went on a mission to start fixed point photography on the reserve. This had been mentioned in previous management reports but we couldn’t find any photographs or records. So we decided that we would start again from scratch. We chose a variety of spots across the reserve, mainly historical areas and land we know will develop over the next ten years. By cataloging these photographs whoever comes back to do the next round of photographs will be able to spot the changes over the next 10 years. Exciting stuff and meant that we got to say hello to our two resident ponies who live on the reserve!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And finally today Adam and I ran another Butterfly Net Workshop! In total we made nine fantastic butterfly nets with our excited guests, who then had a go at catching butterflies out on the reserve. We saw meadow brown butterflies, soldier beetles and even a few frogs! Adam also had a bit of a surprise for everyone with several moths that he had caught last night including a huge poplar hawkmoth! We’ll be running this workshop again over the next two Sunday afternoons so why not consider coming along!
