Now the peregrine chicks are getting bigger, their pre-flight training is ramping up a gear.

Both the chicks are testing out their wing muscles on a regular basis. Where as before these attempts appeared quite feeble, they are now gaining power. Plants on the ledge are being buffeted by the flapping and one chick, who hadn’t realised it’s new found strength, ended up flat on it’s face due to it’s exuberant flapping! Fortunately it recovered quickly from this training hiccup and has hopefully learnt a valuable lesson.

The size and mobility of the chicks means there’s not much space for the falcon (female) on the ledge now. She regularly sits on the rock in front of the nest and recently, has started perching on a section of the rock face a couple of metres above and to the right of the eyrie. From here she has a good vantage point in to the eyrie, so can keep a watchful eye on the chicks’ antics.
