We often receive phonecalls regarding the best time to visit the waterfalls at the Falls of Clyde. Sometimes we have scheduled waterfall days where the hydroelectric powerstation is switched off which allows the full amount of water to cascade down Bonnington and Corra Linn. However, not everyone is available on these dates. The waterfalls do look lovely on scheduled waterfall days, the water is clearer compared to when the level rises due to heavy rain. I find it amazing how fast the level rises after a heavy downpour. Of course it doesn’t matter how much it rains here. It’s all to do with what happens further upriver in the Lowther Hills where the Clyde originates.

Generally the best way to find out whether it’s a good time to see the falls is to either:

• Look at our live webcam;
• Visit the SEPA website and if the level is over 2m then you are good to go;
• Or phone us here in the visitor centre on (01555) 665262.
