Incubating the eggs …

This past weeekend I took over from Tom at the peregrine watch site. The weather up here has been pretty miserable, dull and cold recently so I was overjoyed when we had a hot, sunny weekend. On Saturday we had a record number of visitors for the year so far with over 180 people!

The peregrines have been doing a great job incubating the eggs. Over the time that I’d been watching them I think there was only 1-2mins when either one wasn’t sitting on the eyrie. They take it in turns to incubate the eggs, sitting for an average of two to three hours however yesterday evening the falcon was on the nest for five hours. Generally, whoever isn’t on the nest will be hanging about further up or down the gorge if they are not hunting. We often hear them calling out to one another so we know that they are nearby.

Yesterday morning the tiercel spent a while preening in the sunshine on the cliff edge which was wonderful to see. I managed to get a photo on my phone through one of our scopes.
