Fantastic news about Blue YD!
We are all very excited and delighted to share the news that Blue YD, a male osprey who hatched from a nest in Angus in 2012, has been spotted alive and well in Fife. We were successful in following his first migration south with the help of his satellite tracker, but unfortunately on his return journey back to Scotland in May 2014 his transmitter stopped sending data whilst over Yorkshire. Since then we have had no more signals or reported sightings…until now!!
On Tuesday 25th August, Craig MacInnes captured some incredible pictures clearly showing Blue YD flying over the Eden Estuary in Fife. From the photograph his transmitter can still be seen attached, making it clear that the lack of data must be due to a technical malfunction.
Although we don’t know where he spent his time this season, or whether he has successfully bred yet, it is very reassuring and fantastic news to know that he is still doing well. Many thanks to Craig for sharing his encounter and pictures with us!
