Wildlife Diary Saturday 7th July
Like most places it’s been a soggy and dreich day here. On the Osprey nest there have been a couple of good fish deliveries so far and our female, affectionately known as Lady/Isla/Marge, was off the nest for a couple of hours this morning. She was on the dead tree just down from the nest, one of her favourite perches, while our male (Laddie/Newman) was on the next tree over so we could see the whole family. Showing how quickly Blue 44 is developing when his father brought in a brown trout last night he beetled over to the fish and tried to pick it up himself, at this same time his mother did resulting in a tug of war. Guess who won? Clue: Not him!
Our Great Crested Grebe pair have been back on the loch today with their two chicks. We’re still to confirm whether there is a third chick as they were hiding under their parent’s feathers for most of the day. We did see the chicks being fed with small fish several times which was great to see.
Our Squirrels don’t seem by bothered by the rain as, despite being soaked, they were scoffing the walnuts happily.
