Loch of the Lowes ospreys – the season so far
- NC0 & New Male
- New Male & Unringed Female
- LM24 & Unringed Female
- LM24 & Dark Female
And this is to say nothing of other individuals that have been spotted on the reserve in recent weeks.
After a lot of careful reviewing and analysis of the rapidly changing dynamic, it looks like LM24 and the Dark Female have finally become ‘top ospreys’ at the Lowes nest. They appear to be settled as a pair and have been dominant for over a week at the time of writing.
Who’s who?
Dark Female – Bird with a bandit-style eye mask. Intruded in 2024 and possibly 2023. If she lays eggs, she will officially become LF25 (Lowes Female 2025).
LM24 (Lowes Male 2024) – Also known as the Dark Intruder. Held the territory in the second half of 2024 alongside NC0.
NC0 – Resident breeding female 2020-2024, during which time she fledged seven chicks. Not seen since 2 April.
New Male – A bird who turned up for the first time this year. Has not been seen for several weeks.
Unringed Female – A new bird for this year. She has a Cluedo-style marking on the back of her head.
