Seasonal volunteer rangers on the Isle of Eigg

The community owned Isle of Eigg is a diverse island with coastal land, farmland, willow and hazel scrub, native woodland, raised bog and moorland. Wildflowers and arctic-alpines flourish here, otters forage along the coastline and birds of prey soar high above. Seals, dolphins and minke whales are often spotted from the ferry and over 200 species of birds have been recorded on the island.

What to expect

The season on Eigg normally lasts from April to August and we normally normally recruit one season-long volunteer and four volunteers for two-month placements each.

Duties typically include:

Visitor engagement e.g delivering guided walks
Practical tasks such as bracken control and tree maintenance
Wildlife survey tasks

You will be supported and supervised by the Trust’s Eigg Ranger. Volunteer accommodation is provided on the island in a shared, mixed-sex house. The Trust will also provide branded clothing and an allowance to help with food costs.
