Spey Bay volunteer day – butterfly scrapes

A monthly work party is held at the Trust’s Spey Bay Wildlife Reserve. Join Beth our Reserves Project Officer to undertake essential reserve maintenance tasks at this wonderful coastal reserve.

This month's task will be the creation of butterfly scrapes on the Lein. This provides areas of bare ground for butterflies to rest and bask in the sun and also gives room for the rare small blue butterfly's food plant to grow.

If this is your first time volunteering at Spey Bay, please let Beth know before coming out, in case of a rare occasion when we may have to cancel due to extreme weather or illness.

We will meet at the car park on the Lein, grid ref NJ334656.

Tools and gloves will be provided; please bring a packed lunch, snacks and plenty to drink. Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear is recommended, including warm layers and waterproofs. This is a family friendly event, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

For more information on future monthly work party tasks and other volunteering opportunities in the north of Scotland, please contact Beth at eharwood@scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk or on 07920 468 567; or visit scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk/volunteer for general information about volunteering with the Trust.
