Spey Bay Volunteer Day – Himalayan balsam removal

Join the Scottish Wildlife Trust and the dedicated team of volunteers at Spey Bay in removing invasive plant species.

A monthly work party is held at the Trust’s Spey Bay Wildlife Reserve - a great opportunity to meet new people and connect with nature. Join Beth, our Reserves Project Officer, to undertake essential reserve maintenance tasks at this wonderful coastal reserve. This month's task will be the removal of the invasive plant Himalayan Balsam from the woodlands.

Meet at the car park in the woodlands, grid reference NJ 34892 64541. Directions: follow the road to Spey Bay for 3.6 miles. Just past the Village Hall (and past where the powerlines cross the road), follow a small track to the left, between two farmers' fields. Turn right at the end. Go a little way along and follow the track as it bears left into the woodlands.

For more information, please contact Beth Harwood at eharwood@scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk or on 07920 468 567. If this is your first time volunteering at Spey Bay, please let Beth know before coming out, in case of a rare occasion when we may have to cancel due to extreme weather or illness.

Tools and gloves are provided. Family friendly but children must be with an adult. Please bring lunch, snacks and plenty to drink. Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear is recommended, including warm layers and waterproofs. Parking nearby.

For more information on future monthly work party tasks and other volunteering opportunities in the north of Scotland, please contact Beth; or visit scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk/volunteer for general information about volunteering with the Trust.
