Celebrating World Osprey Week in style!

Female osprey NC0 arrives at the nest

What a way to celebrate World Osprey Week!

Today at 13:21 the female osprey known as NC0 returned to Loch of the Lowes and was immediately greeted by resident male LM12 with some sky dancing. LM12 arrived back on Sunday evening and has been busy adding sticks and sculpting the nest in preparation for her return. LM12 has returned for his 10th season and NC0 for her 2nd. Within 30 minutes of reuniting the birds were seen mating on the nest and hopefully we will have some egg laying news in about 10 days time.

While we’re very excited to have our ospreys back. Please be mindful of the government guidelines in regards to the ongoing pandemic. Staff are now working on site as part of preparations to reopen the visitor centre and for nest protection watch.

Please do not visit the site until we reopen the visitor centre. This is to protect the staff and to minimise the disturbance to the ospreys.

NC0 and LM12 together on the nest

We’re all looking forward to welcoming you all back to Loch of the Lowes when we are allowed to do so. We will update our social media and main webpage with any further information in the coming weeks. So watch this space!

In the mean time the best place to view the ospreys is on our webcam.

Happy World Osprey Week!
