Duke of Edinburgh Awards

We currently have one student working with us to fulfil the Volunteering part of his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

However, we have space for one more. If you (or someone you know) may be interested, please contact us by emailing lochofthelowes@scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk

Last year, the commitment of a full year of conservation volunteering (Gold Award) was taken up by Amelia and this is what she had to say about her experience.

“For the last year I have been volunteering at Loch of the Lowes for my Duke of Edinburgh Gold. The best part of volunteering here is the community atmosphere, everyone is so cheery and even though I have only spent two hours every two weeks here, I have been made to feel like part of the team. I have become much more aware of different wildlife in the local area and have developed a real passion for it. There have been many different species that I have seen including Red squirrels, Golden Eye, Tufted ducks and Canada Geese to name a few. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the ospreys raise their chicks and being able to see them grow and develop from week to week.

I have done many different jobs here including sweeping floors, working the till, restocking the shop, bird counts, filling bird feeders, making posters and setting up children’s activities. Being here has made me much more confident and has given me life skills. Throughout my Duke of Edinburgh I have done many different activities but this has been the most rewarding. I would recommend to anyone looking for volunteer work in the area who enjoys wildlife to come here.”

Over the last few years it has been a pleasure to help young people work towards their Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards and I look forward to meeting the next one!
