With the sun silently dipping down towards the horizon, the treetops surrounding our loch take on an orange glow, intensified by the beautiful, crisp autumn colours. The loch empties of birds as they take to their roosts and the squirrels bury the last of their peanuts; little flashes of red disappearing into the vegetation. The stark contrast of this moment, to when I first began my post as visitor centre assistant back in April is striking, and I cannot help but feel a deep sense of nostalgia for this place. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here; it’s not often one can see red squirrels every day at work, and I am very grateful for how lucky I have been. I have met some really amazing people at Lowes; from staff and volunteers to visitors, and the animals have been truly amazing too!

Lowes will always hold a special place in my heart, and I wish the ospreys, red squirrels, deer, beavers, otters, pine martens, birds and other little critters all the very best for the future. I want to say a final thanks to everyone at Lowes; whether a staff member, a volunteer, member, or a visitor, as without all of your support and hard work, this safe haven for animals could not exist, and I would have had a lot less red squirrels in my life!
