Falls of Clyde Recent Sightings 2nd June – 8th June

I am afraid you are stuck with me today, Adam is much better with birds then I am but I have been spotting a few things on my travels through the reserve!

On our most recent badger watch we saw 4 Badgers, 2 Roe Deer, Pipstrelle and Daubenton’s bats.

Rhingia campestris (a lovely wee hoverfly) can be seen across the reserve and I saw a Common Carder bee buzzing about by the pond.

We saw 3 Ravens calling and sitting in one of the trees in the field adjacent to the meadow. We have also been hearing Yellow Hammer singing (a little bit of bread and no cheese!) in the meadow of an evening. Our Peregrines are still being seen at the watch point fairly regularly but are tending to feed and roost more often elsewhere. Our Kingfisher was briefly spotted along the boardwalk.

Sanicle along the blue route, one plant just before the big blue/black pipe before you get to the pond, it is also appearing more abundantly along the boardwalk. Common Spotted Orchid’s are beginning to emerge all over the place. They won’t flower for a few more weeks yet but they have very distinctive spotty leaves. We even found one tiny plant on the right of the path before you get to the lower Corra Linn viewpoint, please don’t step on it!

Wood Cranesbill (also known as Odin’s Grace), a large purple/blue flower can be found across the reserve and Yellow Pimpernel (boardwalk and road down to power station). Common Cow-wheat has also just started flowering in front of the peregrine shed and further along towards Bonnington Linn.
