Advent Calendar – Day 17

Steve Blow, the Reserves Manager – South Scotland, shares his highlights from the his year at the Falls of Clyde!

Otters are one of our livliest, but seldom seen residents at the Falls of Clyde © Scottish Wildlife Trust

“Some of my favourite visitors to the reserve are the otters that can sometimes be seen hunting and feeding outside the Visitor Centre’s windows. They are around for much of the year, but are quite shy and often only seen at dusk and early morning. Fortunately for us though, they seem to get braver and make a regular appearance in February and March when mum is teaching the cubs how to hunt. A couple of years ago, I was lucky enough to see another family group hunting and playing up by Bonnington Linn when the river was partly frozen – Otterly Amazing!”
