Scotland is a land of stories.

Stories of wildlife, wild land and wild weather. Whether it’s great journalism, a memorable poem or a personal tale, a story can move us in different ways.

In recognition of Scotland’s rich history of storytelling and to mark our 60th anniversary year, our Words of the Wild campaign is a celebration of these stories.

Through a programme of special events, a nature writing competition and our first ever podcast series, we invite you to join us in celebrating Scotland’s #WordsOfTheWild.

Enter our competition

Inspire others with your story of Scotland’s wildlife by entering our Words of the Wild competition, with adult and junior categories and over £1,200 of wildlife prizes to be won!

“Under me the central core of fire from which was thrust this grumbling grinding mass of plutonic rock, over me blue air, and between the fire of the rock and the fire of the sun, scree, soil and water, moss, grass, flower and tree, insect, bird and beast, wind, rain and snow – the total mountain.”
