Colour in an amazing animal mask

If you’ve ever wanted to be your favourite wild animal? Now is your chance! Have a go at making an animal mask using our mask templates below. Whether you love ladybirds, bees or something more furry like a hare – we’ve got the mask for you.

You can combine it with some research and wild animal performances too!

What you will need:

  • Printed activity sheet(s) (or plain paper/card)
  • Colouring pencils or pens
  • String (or elastic)
  • Scissors
  • A hole punch (optional)
  • Lollypop stick (optional)

How to make your animal mask:

  1. Print out the mask of your choosing. If you don’t have a printer, you could copy the design onto paper or card and then follow the rest of the instructions to make your mask.
  2. Time to let the creativity flow and decorate your mask! Once done, carefully cut around the outline and the eyes – it can be a little fiddly so you may need an adult’s help.
  3. Carefully punch out the two holes at the sides of the mask. A hole punch is helpful for this, but you could use a sharp pencil or the scissors. Remember to be careful.
  4. Measure a piece of string around your head so that you get the right size. Tie the string between the two holes.
  5. Your mask is ready to go!

Advice for Educators

You can use the masks to create some wild performances. Can your group move around like their animal and make some of its calls/noises? Individually, or in pairs/groups, you could have them research their animal and then present their findings.
