Whether you're a solo explorer open to making marine-minded mates or have the whole family and friends gang in tow, join this coastal community celebration of Orkney snorkelling!
The Stromness Museum and Scottish Wildlife Trust have been working closely with communities and businesses across the Orkney Isles, to develop the Orkney snorkel trail - a self-led guide to exploring some of the best snorkel spots around Orkney. We hope this resource will:
- help make oceans more accessible to more people
- support responsible eco-tourism across Orkney
- inspire people to connect with, value and protect the wildlife in Scotland's seas
Local groups and individuals are working hard behind the scenes to offer a fun variety of family-friendly activities as part of this Orkney snorkel celebration. These include:
- Guided snorkelling (led by the fantastic Kraken Diving, to take part please book your spot seperately via this link here - INSERT)
- Bioblitz (from a Seasearch snorkel to rockpool ramble, together let's record as many different species as we can)
- Sea stalls (from crafters to conservationists, support the rich diversity of people and projects who are passionate about Orkney's marine area)
- Ocean activities (meet other marine-minded people, get inspired by their passions and get involved yourself in a supportive setting)
- Cuppas, cake and chit-chat also on the agenda!
This event will be spread out between two locations, Finstown car park and (INSERT indoor option), both x minutes walk apart.

A big thank you to Cath and Pete without whom this snorkel trail and event wouldn't be possible. Cath and Pete genorously set up a JustGiving page for the creation of an Orkney snorkel trail to celebrate their wedding. Their wedding was on the 30th of September 2023 and they raised a whopping £2,480! This money has gone directly towards developing and designing the Orkney snorkel trail and to creating this launch event.
