Celebrating International Bog Day at Red Moss of Balerno Wildlife Reserve

Explore Red Moss of Balerno Wildlife Reserve on International Bog Day, with a circular walk around the reserve and pond dipping.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Lothians Group invites you to join them at Red Moss of Balerno reserve, on the edge of the Pentland Hills, on International Bog Day. The group will welcome you at the start of the reserve and a boardwalk above the peatbog will take you on a self-guided walk with information about the reserve along the way. Family friendly, pond dipping will be available during the afternoon and local experts will be available to explain the importance of the reserve. A haven for wildlife, it supports plants such as pink-purple heather, sundews, ragged-robin and sphagnum mosses, and provides habitat for frogs, toads, lizards, dragonflies and more.

International Bog Day is a global celebration of these rich peatland habitats for wildlife and this event provides a great chance to explore the last remaining raised bog in the city of Edinburgh.

To find out more, and for any queries, please email the Lothians Group: chair@swtlothians.org.uk or call Dr Tim Duffy on 07968 530 678.
