The latest in our series of National Webinars, hosted by the Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire group.
From brochs and bridges to stone circles and dykes, archaeological and historical monuments create habitats for lichens, mosses and liverworts. Join renowned Northeast lichen and bryophyte expert, Petra Vergunst, as she talks about the structural ecological niches that support a diverse range of lichens and bryophytes. The unconsolidated rocks and stones – sometimes local, sometimes carried in from miles away – can help increase the species diversity of an area. Different combinations of rock type, moisture levels, sunlight and exposure can encourage very different lichen, moss and liverwort communities. This January, dive into the nooks and crannies of some of those features in our landscape and learn about the lichens and bryophytes that call these slabs and crevices ‘home’.
