What are you wading for?

Staff at the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Montrose Basin Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve are all set to launch a new event next Sunday (21 November) which is all about telling the difference between the many varieties of wading birds found locally across Angus and Tayside.

Hosted by Montrose Basin Ranger, Adam McClure, and with the help of local volunteers, the event will begin with an indoor session to cover basic identification tips and the type of equipment used for bird watching.  This will be followed by an outdoor session to put your new skills into practice.

Adam McClure, Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Montrose Basin Ranger said:  “This is an ideal opportunity to get expert knowledge and handy tips on identifying wading birds, which can be tricky due to only subtle differences in many species like, for example, the dunlin and the knot.

“If you ever wondered how to make identifying wading birds easier, come along to this new event and we’ll show you how. We will give you simple and easy tips which will be ideal for beginners to pick up.

“Attendees are asked to bring lunch, stout footwear and warm clothing. Places are limited to 20 for what we expect will be very popular event, therefore booking is essential.”

To book your place, telephone the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Montrose Basin Visitor Centre on 01674 676336 or email at montrosebasin@swt.org.uk. The event costs £5.00 per person and includes entry into the Visitor Centre for the afternoon.
