Trust welcomes call for a boycott of Trump’s golf course

The editor of one of the world's biggest-selling golf magazines has called for a boycott of Donald Trump's ecologically damaging course at the Menie Estate in Aberdeenshire. Bill Elliott of Golf Monthly made the call after seeing the film You've Been Trumped, describing the lives of people affected by Trump's building works.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust led opposition to Trump's course which opened earlier this year.

Scottish Wildlife Trust Director of Conservation Jonny Hughes said:

“The Scottish Wildlife Trust takes considerable heart that a senior figure in the world of golf has come out against Trump's damaging course at Menie and Foveran Links, north of Aberdeen.

“We have always maintained that golf and the environment can and should go hand in hand, something which Trump seemed either not to understand, or to wilfully ignore. We helped design an alternative for Trump's course that would have saved the Site of Special Scientific Interest, but he rejected it.

“I'm sure more and more golfers will follow Bill Elliott's lead and boycott the course.”
