The Scottish Wildlife Trust is delighted to have attended the 2017 People’s Postcode Lottery annual Charity Gala where it was announced that £66.3 million was awarded to charities and good causes in 2016 – thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
The Trust is one of 69 charities that benefited from this incredible funding in 2016 with £525,000 received in 2016 alone.
The news of the funding total was shared on Tuesday 24 January at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh. The Charity Gala celebrated the phenomenal achievements of charities working across Great Britain and internationally that are supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
The event was attended by HRH Prince Charles, Sir David Attenborough, broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan and TV presenter Fiona Philips. Entertainment on the night was provided by Mica Paris and Soul Nation.
“Support from players helps to protect Scotland’s amazing wildlife including ospreys and red squirrels, and create stronger links between people and nature.
Building these connections through education and public events is a vital part of protecting Scotland’s wildlife for the future.”
Jonny Hughes, Chief Executive, Scottish Wildlife Trust
Support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery helps the Scottish Wildlife Trust maintain its network of 120 wildlife reserves throughout Scotland and develop ground-breaking new projects that take conservation beyond reserve boundaries.
Funding from players allows the Trust to educate and inspire tens of thousands of adults and children at its four Visitor Centres, and helps to protect threatened wildlife including breeding ospreys at Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve in Perthshire.
Jonny Hughes, Chief Executive of the Scottish Wildlife Trust said: “The Scottish Wildlife Trust was fortunate enough to be one of the first charities supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. It was a privilege to attend the Gala and find out about the growing number of good causes that receive their support.
