Thousands of wildlife and nature lovers are expected to flock to the third annual Scottish Birdfair on 10 and 11 May, making it the biggest and best yet.
Held in the stunning grounds of Hopetoun House, near Edinburgh, the event has been billed as a ‘must’ for anyone interested in Scotland’s birds, animals and wild places.
Organised by RSPB Scotland, the Scottish Birdfair attracts some 6,000 wildlife enthusiasts and families looking for a fun day out. Many visitors travel from across the UK and further afield.
With over 100 wildlife related exhibiting stands – including the Scottish Wildlife Trust – there will be something for everyone, from state-of-the-art optics to the latest in wildlife technology, holidays, books and artwork.
The event is FREE for children, and so are most of the activities. Children can try their hand at pond dipping or bush crafts, dissect an owl pellet or enjoy storytelling and puppet shows in the tipi as part of their adventure.
A range of fascinating talks from conservation experts, guided walks, foraging workshop and bird ringing demonstrations will be on offer as well as locally sourced food and cooking demonstrations. Top speakers include naturalist, author and TV producer Stephen Moss, David Lindo (AKA The Urban Birder), and artist Darren Woodhead.
All the proceeds raised over the weekend will go towards conserving and protecting Scottish wildlife including the kittiwake, a Scottish seabird experiencing steep declines.
Attendees will have the opportunity to climb aboard a special Firth of Forth Seabird Cruise and discover kittiwakes and other seabirds and marine life right on Edinburgh’s doorstep.

“There are fascinating talks, tips and ideas to try out in the garden, guided walks and interactive workshops for all ages. With all funds raised at the event going to conservation efforts for kittiwakes and other remarkable Scottish species, there’s even more reason to join in the fun.”
