Recruitment of trainees

With support of the Heritage Lotttery Fund – Skills for the Future Programme,  the Scottish Wildlife Trust is pleased to announce a new training  programme In Ecological Surveying.
– Developing Ecological Surveying Skills

SWT will be advertising 10 positions for Trainees in January 2011 for  the  programme which is planned to start in April 2011 to give full seasons in the field.

The positions attract a bursary award of £12,500 per annum  pro rata for the 18 month training programme

Interviews will take place late January/early February 2011

The programme is designed to give a nationally accredited qualifcation while operating as a practical field-based work-focused training. It is designed so that trainees will gain valuable  practical experience on our nature reserves and other sites around Scotland. Trainees will therefore be expected to be available for normal employee working hours – 7 per day, 35 per week, at least, and there will be some work outside these times with occassional overnight stays for fieldwork.

The training base is still to be finalised but this should be in the central belt of
Scotland not too far from our Edinburgh HQ with good transport links and access to our reserves and and the motorway network. This should also be suitable for trainees to find finding accommodation relatively nearby.

A very experienced and skilled Programme Leader will be supported by a number of specilaist SWT staff and expert volunteers to deliver the training.

It is anticipated that candidates may already have a relevant scientific, environmental or countryside qualification and/or experience of ecological surveying. We are especially looking
for people who are strongly committed to a career in ecological surveying and the programme will include specific training related to being self-employed and running your own business.
